Recipe for spaghetti sauce:
Saute:
1/3 c olive oil
1 onion chopped fine
2 chopped garlic buds
Add:
1 lb ground beef, brown and add
1 can tomatoes
1 can tomato paste
1 can (4 oz) mushrooms + liquid
1/2 tea salt
1/2 tea oregano
1/2 tea basil
bay leaf
thyme
parsley
chopped green pepper
1 c chopped celery
Cook 2 hours or until right consistency

In a copy of May Bartlett's Stepmother, copyright 1890, by Nora Perry, instructions on how to arrange satin ribbon pinwheels to place over a little black felt toque in your hair. Sweet.
A social card issued in 1939, and a draft status card from 1945. I've tried to track this man down, in Kentucky, to no avail. Title of book is Pioneer History Stories of the Mississippi Valley/Charles McMurrey PHD copyright 1891.

His Excellency
A special treat today, but first a bit of background information. My grandfather collected just about everything. Stamps, model trains, coins, autographs, you name it. One of his favorite pieces in the collection was a document from 1862 signed by President Abraham Lincoln.
I was recently contacted by the Papers of Abraham Lincoln in Springfield, Illinois about the letter, they had seen it up for sale on eBay. They requested a high quality scan of the document for their collection, so while I had it here in the shop, I thought I would share it with you:
