I poked around Ancestry.com and found Allen David Backus, born Feb 19 1889 in Franklin, New York, who moved to New Jersey sometime before 1930 with his wife Catherine (spelled with a C). According to his draft registration card, he was employed by the Board of Education. No kids listed in the 1930 or 1940 census, but they did have a radio set.
ReplyDeleteInteresting! A July 5th wedding? Must gave been hot weather.
ReplyDeleteI made a little family tree here at www.ancestry.com: http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/65910508/family
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't seem Allen and Catherine had children, but both of their ancestors had large and interesting families.
And here is how 34 Main Street in Oneonta looks today:

Roger, they actually just tore down that house and a few others beside it.
ReplyDeleteMichael,
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame to hear that!
Indeed, it will be a bank: http://www.thedailystar.com/localnews/x651192545/Bank-to-clear-space-for-Oneonta-branch
