Trade card featuring a portrait of Sergeant Mason. On the reverse is an advertisement for George Keyes' Son & Co.. Is it a portrait of the Sergeant Mason who attempted to shoot Charles J. Guiteau, the man who assassinated President James Garfield? I can't verify. It's my best guess.

You are correct in your assessment of Sgt Mason. He became quite the celebrity, and people petitioned his pardon all the way to the White House. Can't remember the outcome.
