Just a lovely old photo. Here's the back, I cleaned it up a bit so you could read the faded pencil:
I believe it says "Winona (Winora?) Messer - April 1, 1923 - Sweetheart"
Found in "A Case of Sardines" by Charles Poole Cleaves. Published by The Pilgrim Press, 1903.

I believe it is Winorr Messer. The New York Times Herald identifies a Winorr Messer in the 1936 obituaries, and the name is listed in the census records for that time period.
ReplyDeleteHere is a little family tree I was able to make with the information given: http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/62768498/family?fpid=46095731158
ReplyDeleteI couldn't find the obituary Suzassippi mentioned, but if so, she died only about two years after her marriage in 1934 at age 24.
Oh my - what a lovely photograph.
