I find a lot of of flowers in books. After bookstore receipts, they are likely the item most commonly found. I decided a while back not to post any, as I tried to limit my posted finds to the strangest and funniest. But for some reason, this humble bouquet caught my eye.
Found in "Homeric Greek - A Book for Beginners" by Clyde Pharr. Published by the University of Oklahoma Press, 1980.

There is that great passage in Marilyn Robinson's book _Housekeeping_ about the dictionary full of pressed flowers, each on their appropriate page. Thanks for making me think of that today! --Traci
ReplyDeleteYou should make a collage of all the flowers you find.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how to make a collage.
ReplyDeleteI'd have to go to collage college.
I think I'd have a hard time throwing away all the pressed flowers-- there's something so hopeful and nostalgic about them.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that I saw a Facebook friend's Like of your site just now! I can't wait to look back through older posts... If I ever press flowers, it's not usually in my nightstand books.. more often in my journals. I use free bookmarks from our local independent bookseller, favorite photos, random receipts, biz cards, notes from my kids...
ReplyDeleteIs it really from 1980? The format looks much, much older. I love the kiss-off labelled "489-500": "Want to learn Attic Greek? Yeah, good luck with that!"
