(Yes, I realize there's no mint to be found. Reader Andrea points us in this direction:

This recipe is basically the same, except "you wrap the dough around a piece of minty chocolate and stick a walnut on top."

I wonder what makes them mint?
ReplyDeleteYou make a good point.
ReplyDeletePerhaps that's the surprise.
"Surprise! Not minty!"
"Surprise Not minty!"
ReplyDeleteHas to be! Nothing in the recipe to give you that mint taste unless you are suppose to eat a mint before the cookie. :)
This reminds me of that pie that tastes like apple pie, even though the filling is made out of crackers, sugar and lemon juice– no apples.
ReplyDeleteI found a recipe for Starlight Mint Surprise Cookies: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/starlight-mint-surprise-cookies/
The same one, except you wrap the dough around a piece of minty chocolate and stick a walnut on top (I'm not sure if I like the sound of that!).
Oh, nice save Andrea.
ReplyDeleteHAHA, the link to the modern-day version requires one to count out 100 walnut halves and 100 mint wafer cookies.
ReplyDeleteI just read an article about a lady who collects old written recipe cards - I bet she would love this.
