Good morning all. I'm not quite sorted out from yesterday's mess, so a new bookmark will have to wait another day. Instead, I'm happy to offer up a giveaway:
"The Works of Edgar Allan Poe" in ten little volumes (they measure 4 inches by 7 inches). Published by John Hovendon, circa 1902. I know there's only nine in the photos, I left one on the shelf. Trust me, I have all ten.
Contest closed to entries, back with a winner in a few minutes.

I'd love to give those a home. There's nothing like reading Poe on a cold, windy day while sipping some black bitter tea.
ReplyDeleteOh my stars, I cannot tell you how much I want to win this. Poe is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI bet those books are HAUNTED. Which is why I need them.
ReplyDeleteYES YES YES! Of all the give aways you've listed this one must be mine. Indeed.
ReplyDeleteHope you find that the damage was less than you thought. Such a lovely store of books there...
What? No one else wants to take a chance?
ReplyDeleteOh. My. Gosh. Seriously?? Have you seen my "Pop Poe" t-shirt and bobble-head dolls? Ok, I'm drooling at my desk. Co-workers will be concerned.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance! Hope today is an A+ day for you!

ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry about your disaster. Hopefully you will be back on your feet very soon.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for the loss of the books (and bookmarks) yesterday. Best wishes to you and your store.
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMy son loves Poe and these could be a nice college graduation present.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about the water damage & lost books & bookmarks!
ReplyDeleteYes, please. They're wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI am amazed that you are offering these in the midst of your tragedy. My hat goes off to you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway. I hope the cleanup is going ok. That's the last thing you need with a new baby. :(
ReplyDeleteI sat outside at the Haunted Forest in Williston Vermont reading Poe last year... I'd love to have more to read!
ReplyDeleteWould love to have these - especially since Cousin Edgar would smile upon me giving them a home - yep, I'm related to the master himself! :) Hope all is well there today!
ReplyDeleteHah!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Put my name in the hat, please.
ReplyDeleteHope the clean up in the shop is going well.
Thanks.
Wow, these look a lot better than the complete works of Poe I saw earlier today.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you're still doing a giveaway after that happened. Bully for you. That being said, I'm obviously entering, because POE.
ReplyDeleteI am in for the drawing BUT hope you are doin ok there with the water clean up.
ReplyDeletePoe is pretty much my favorite of all time. I can't believe you have the time/energy to do this in the midst of all this craziness!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind getting my grubby little mitts on those. Count me in, please.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, those are right up my alley.
ReplyDeleteCount me in. Thanks

ReplyDeleteAh! I have been a fan of Edgar Allen Poe for sooo long! My sixth grade teacher used to read him to us! Of course, my parents were kinda creeped out by it... But I always loved him!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, those are just marvelous..
ReplyDeleteHope things are going well.love Poe.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love Poe so much and having those wonderful books in my collection would be such a wonderful thing! I hope things are going better for you, I told my friends about your predicament, and the book lovers looked visibly shaken.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear about your shop. I hope the cleanup is going ok.
ReplyDeleteThese books look great, as usual. Count me in!
These are beautiful! And I can't believe you had the time to offer these when you're flooded - thank you :)
ReplyDeleteMy youngest son is studying Poe right now and loves
ReplyDeletehim. Hope today was a better day for you. Would love to give those books a home.
I know I just won...and I don't want to be greedy. But I can't tell you how much I'd love to win these small-sized editions of Poe. I collect the smaller books... But if I can't win, I'm rooting for you, Adam!
ReplyDeleteHope the clean-up is going WAY better than anticipated!
Now this is a set I'd love to win.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win some Poe! I've had a flood or two in my personal library, and they are just terrible things. Good luck with the clean up.
ReplyDeleteAh, Poe! Count me in!
ReplyDeleteOh my Oh my! I... its... yes please. I hope your recovery goes along swiftly.
ReplyDeletePlease? :) These look amazing!
ReplyDeleteThough I'm hesitant to take books off your hands for free after the week you've had, the fact that it's old hardcover volumes of Poe leaves me powerless. Count me in.
ReplyDeleteFinally, some books I would love to have. I am a big fan of Poe.
ReplyDeleteIt's too bad you couldn't freeze dry your damaged books/bookmarks to save them.
that gold-poe-on-red cover is kinda creepy. My dad had a 2-volume complete Poe set I enjoyed as a kid, except for the volumes being too big to manage.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely count me in!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get the bookshop back on its feet soon.
Count me in, please. I would love to have this set on our mantle - my husband and I would gain much enjoyment from these.
ReplyDeleteFeeling guiltily excited about the giveaway . . .
ReplyDeleteMy daughter took my Poe collection to college with her. This would make a super replacement, and she would be so jealous!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your store, and I hope everything turns out well!
ReplyDeleteHow generous to take the time to make this offer while still dealing with your store issues. I'd be thankful to be included in your drawing!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the flooding - that was terrible news! All those books...
ReplyDeleteAnyway, as a Poe fan, this is a fantastical give away. :)
This would be awesome! Count me in!
ReplyDeletecount me in! Would the best way to offer monetary support be to buy your book? Maybe we could all buy on a specific day to boost your amazon stat. :-)
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear the news about the store. At least all those forgotten bookmarks will never really be lost because of this website.
ReplyDeleteHoping there is light at the end of the tunnel for you! Sorry for the mess you are going through!
ReplyDeleteI love Poe!
ReplyDeleteOooh! Good givaway. I would love to get my mitts on those!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to give these books a loving home. Reading Poe on a winter day with the beverage of your choice sounds heavenly to me.

ReplyDeleteA giveaway so soon. You have a new baby and your books have their own pool. Awesome blog by the way, I have fallen in love with it.
ReplyDeleteCool Poe set!
ReplyDeleteThe POEtential is amazing!
ReplyDeleteI woudl love to have these. That said, I am so sorry about the sad death of so many great books (not to mention the bookmarks).
ReplyDeleteWhat adorable little Poe books! I hope your post-flood cleanup is going well, and if possible, that things turn out better than they first seemed!
ReplyDeleteA giveaway when you're still recovering from a flood? WE should be giving away books to YOU!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could remember who pointed me in the direction of your blog so I can thank them. You are fantastic.
My hubby just happened to stumble upon this site, and I began commenting with the best intentions of earning myself Poe, but I read the post below first and wanted to offer my condolences for the incredible amount of damage ya'll sustained. It's akin to losing family members, when you lose books (especially older ones with a history of their own) that you have a relationship/history with. One alternative, in lieu of throwing the remnants of the damaged books away (if that is indeed what you intend) is to sell them/donate them either to a community college art program, or attempt to sell them on craigslist/ebay. There is quite a few people making their living by making original journals (both blank & lined) by rebinding blank notebooks with covers of antique books, the more damage & character the better. Chin up! It will get better!
ReplyDeleteWow! Something led me here today after much soul searching. Poe is my favorite ever. Would love to showcase such a wonderful collection.
ReplyDeleteWow! Something led me here today after much soul searching only to find you giving away my favorite author. Thank you even if I don't get the books. So sorry about the flood.
ReplyDeleteThey are so beautiful! Please, count me in
ReplyDeleteMy 13-year-old daughter is a huge Poe fan. It would be a treat to encourage her reading with these volumes...
ReplyDeleteI have loved Poe since childhood- one of my very first favorite authors!
ReplyDeleteHello, I found your blog today when I did a random Google search and came across this site.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, cheers for this amazing blog. I'm thrilled with it. You really have such a lovely dream job :)
I realised your store went through a disaster after reading below. I'm terribly sorry for your loss and I hope you will be back on your feet soon.
I think it's kind of you to still give these books away, may they be given to a good owner. Poe is an amazing author.
Take care, carry on and hugs from the other side of the world!

I can't believe you've found time to host a giveaway while amid all that carnage!

Great looking set. Hope clean up is going well. As for the leak, you know what the raven said ...
ReplyDeleteI have a wonderful spot on my bookshelf just waiting for some Poe books. Pick me please!
ReplyDeleteWhat can one do but carry on? Best, M.
ReplyDeleteOh, my. I cannot begin to tell you how perfectly this set of books fits me and my husband. They make me a little giddy...
ReplyDeleteThis is so serendipitous! I found books 1-9 at a garage sale 3 years ago and I have been hunting for the 10th book ever since! Although I would give all of these wonderful books a good home, I would love a gift of the 10th book! Hoping that fate pays me back!
ReplyDeleteOh... just what I need... says the Poe collector in me. :) I've aleady got the two volumes (supposedly complete works) of Poe published by Library of America, and a single volume anthology that leaves out all his non-fiction but has done a fair job compiling all the poetry and fiction.
ReplyDeleteMmm, Poe...
ReplyDeleteWhat a great little set. I hope all is going well at the shop and things are looking on the up and up!
ReplyDeletePlease enter me in drawing terri
ReplyDeleteI JUST discovered this blog through the Bookshelf Porn website and am thrilled about it! My husband is a big Poe fan, would love to win this!
