ReplyDeletewow! that is amazing! not that people were married for that long back then, but that their invitation lasted that long. i love your blog!
ReplyDeleteDid some quick research, and I believe this is Jonathan Russell Thurston and his wife Jane or June. He was a farmer (still farming at age 68 according to the 1900 US census!), and they had at least 7 children together (Julia, Sarah, William, Clayton, Ella, Burton & Ida). His wife worked as a seamstress as well.
ReplyDeleteHe was a very successful farmer (according to the 1870 farm schedule), and lived to a ripe old age.
Dec. 27 seems to be a good day for long-lasting marriages. This year will be my parents' 43rd. My siblins and I didn't do anything nearly this fancy for their 25th or 40th, but it's a good idea to steal for their 50th.
