Samurai playing card, the six of clubs.
Found in "The Chicken Devil Mystery" by John Bechtel. Published by Eerdmans, 1944.
Chicken Devil Mystery? I would like to read that book.
El Pollo Diablo!
This looks more like a Chinese design. Samurai are from Japan.
It is a Chinese deck. My parents brought me back a deck with that exact card back in the eighties.I think the theme of the deck was the Journey to the West.
I think I had a set of those - they might be "Characters in Water Margin". I got them from Pier One.
Yes that's right. They were definitely based on the Water Margin.
Six of clubs? That is mysterious.
Awesome cover!
