Yet Another Contest - UPDATE #3: All Prizes Taken

Claire is our first winner. Congrats.

Mr. Burns is number two.

Jack is number three. Thanks to all who entered, and keep an eye in the mail for your books.

I'm hoping this one will be the best yet.

Here are the rules:

Further down in this post, there will an image containing 16 smaller images. These were little snapshots taken from various posts on the site. Hopefully you'll recognize some right away; others you may have to browse around the site a bit to find. I tried to concoct a game that would take some time to figure out. Build some suspense. Anway - on to the prizes:

The first person to email me the correct corresponding URLs (links) to all 16 images will win this fabulous prize:

"Old Curiosity Shop' by Charles Dickens - this is a nice and clean Rand McNally edition, gilt decoration and lettering on cover and spine, gilt top edge. No date, circa 1905.

The second person to email me the correct corresponding URLs (links) to all 16 images will win this pretty OK prize:

Two matching volumes from Thomas Y. Crowell, "The Poetical Works of Elizabeth Barrett Browning" and "Poems of Robert Browning." Both columes are marked as "Astor Editions," and are from 1900 or so, no date indicated.

The third person to email me the correct corresponding URLs (links) to all 16 images will win this humble but still enjoyable prize:

"Ivanhoe" by Sir Walter Scott, published by Thomas Nelson, 1909. Blue flexible leather cover, gilt decoration on spine. A little worn, but hey, it's 100 years old - and free.

To email me, simply use the CONTACT link above, or click here.
Here's the image. Click to enlarge. If you have any questions, find me on Twitter, I'll be working at my desk for a good bit. Good hunting -

Exposed

I don't think anyone noticed, but I feel like I have to point this out. In today's giveaway photo, you can catch a glimpse of the true me. The photo is my desk here at work, and if I blow up the photo and highlight...

...Darth Vader's Tie Fighter, part of the 1985 Star Wars Action Fleet, complete with blaster burns.

I don't have the little Darth Vader that goes in the cockpit, so I stuck a penguin in there.

I had to come clean.

Giveaway, Part II

Today we are giving away this vintage copy of "The Last of the Mohicans" by James Fenimore Cooper. This volume of the Leatherstocking Tales was published by F.M. Lupton Co. in New York. No date, circa 1890s.

Here are the simple rules: one of the forgotten bookmarks posted here on the site was a photo of a casket. The first person to identify the college or university mentioned in that post gets the book. Please post your answers in the comments section so everyone can see that you were the winner. Thanks -

Contest Day

I had a lot of fun giving stuff away yesterday through Twitter, thought I would continue today.

Here's what's up for grabs:

Nice vintage copy of "Vanity Fair" published by Thomas Nelson and Sons, circa 1900. Part of the New Century Library series, which featured smaller sizes and thinner paper.

Also included in the giveaway will be the four leaf clover featured in this post from a few days ago. You know I had to give that one away today - if not now, when?

Before we get started, yes, I'll ship it anywhere, for free. Alabama, Switzerland, New Zealand, Texas... you get the picture.

As for the rules, I don't want to make you all jump through hoops, nor can I figure out some savvy contest that will pull in web traffic all day. I don't give stuff away for that reason, so here are the simple contest rules: Just leave a comment on why you'd like this item, or why you enjoy Forgotten Bookmarks, or what you think can make the site better. I'll pick the winner from the comments section somewhat at random (I have a 1-10 number in mind, whoever posts in that particular spot will win). That's it.

I have a backup prize just in case things go haywire.
Good luck.

ONE more thing... I will check the comments around noon or so (Eastern US), I have some bookstore work that can't wait.

UPDATE: Hey, great response. The number I had in mind was 3 (the number of posts I was hoping for) so good job everyone, you exceeded my expectations. I'll try and post another giveaway tomorrow if time allows.  preludetochaos, I will message you on twitter.
